Job Description

Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security, and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more - we can innovate, invest, inspire, and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.

At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We're creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security vision. We're erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We're advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we're reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a junior Electro-Optical Engineer to join our team in Littleton, CO! We are searching for an engineer or scientist with expertise in fields that support the design, assembly, and test of cameras and optical payloads including optical engineering or detector engineering. Understanding micro-electronic packaging of focal plane arrays or opto-mechanical engineering related to detector or camera test would support this role. In this role you will develop requirements for a mission and analyze the ability of hardware to meet required performance. You will also procure, integrate, and test optical lenses, cameras, laser range finders, and other hardware for optical payloads.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Detector and camera characterization and test
Design of optical mounts and ground support test equipment to produce camera test sets
Leadership of radiation testing for detectors
Procurement of optical hardware including laser range finders, detectors, cameras, filters, mirrors, and lenses
Leadership of a technical project including managing team of 3-6 people, a schedule, and a budget and reporting status.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in one or more of the following areas: detector characterization, camera test, optical analysis, optical design, or opto-mechanical design

- Ability to communicate with engineers, support staff, management, and customers

- Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance

Desired skills

BS in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline plus 2 years of work experience or a Masters degree in one of the fields listed above

Familiarity with optical design and analysis software tools. Examples include Zemax, FRED, GLAD, Code-V and LASCAD.

Ability to design and lead the build of ground support equipment for optical test sets

Familiarity with laboratory development and modeling software tools (i.e. Matlab/Simulink, Labview, and Mathcad).
