Overview
GovCIO is currently hiring for a Senior Computer System Engineer/Architect to support the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Multi Domain Lab (MDL). The MDL facilitates an immersive and scalable learning environment to provide future Air and Space Force leaders with a lasting experience in the fundamentals of warfare and the employment of multi-domain effects in a dynamic Joint landscape. The Senior Computer System Engineer/Architect will help USAFA streamline the MDL by providing agile infrastructure solutions that will promote growth to keep up with the rapid changes in technology. The Senior Computer System Engineer/Architect will support identification, research, and analysis necessary to test and integrate new technologies into the MDL environment. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO and will be a onsite position.
Responsibilities
Designs and develops network and system architectures, and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Defines total systems design and technology maturity constraints in accordance with mission requirements. Develops network and system element architecture and design and interface definitions. Defines network and system implementation approach and operational concept. Develops models and architectural guidelines for current and future network and system development. Ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customer.

High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience
- Experience designing, implementing and managing IT systems and protocols.
- Ability to oversee virtual machines and VM resource management and have the requisite knowledge to test integration and evaluate whether new systems will work.
- In-depth understanding of vCenter administration and be able to perform root cause analysis.
- Ability to write and debug code.
- Knowledge of programming languages like Python, Java or SQL.
- Extensive knowledge of computer software, hardware, networks, cloud platforms and data centers.
- Thorough understanding of network components like routers, switches and firewalls.
- Competencies to configure and administer enterprise level networks.
- Knowledge of securing networks, detecting intrusions, and implementing regular security checks to protect data.
- Ability to assess, recommend, and implement basic DoD cyber security protocols.

- Ability work and thrive in a small team environment.
- Good communicator and ability to simplify complex matters when explaining to others.

- Interfaces with the user(s) and all other stakeholders in order to determine their needs.
- Generates the highest level of requirements, based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule.
- Performs cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.
- Designs and develops solutions to applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.
- Develops partitioning algorithms (and other processes) to allocate all present and foreseeable requirements into discrete partitions such that a minimum of communications is needed among partitions, and between the user and the system.
