;br>Summary of Job Duties:
The Communications Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for managing the physical infrastructure needs of the campus data network, voice services. This position reports directly to the manager of network systems and works closely with team members in the network and communication systems teams to ensure that resources are available and at the standard for campus network and voice communication services. This position will also interface regularly with other campus units and vendors to deploy, manage, and maintain communications infrastructure. Additionally, this position will coordinate network and communications asset management and regular property accounting needs.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least four years of formal IT-related job experience, including some in the field of network or communications infrastructure or related
  • At least two years of experience in structured cabling
  • At least two years of experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting copper ethernet and fiber optic cabling and connectors

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification(s) or training in low-voltage cabling or fiber optic cabling maintenance, such as BICSI or similar
  • At least five years of experience in a formal role relating to the implementation or management of data network and/or telecommunications physical infrastructure
  • Demonstrable experience with data cabling and communication infrastructure industry standards, such as ANSI/TIA-568 or similar
  • Demonstrable experience with managing low-voltage cabling contractors or other related communication construction vendor services
  • Demonstrable experience with creating and maintaining technical documentation and standards
  • Demonstrable experience with using communication infrastructure testing processes and tools
  • Demonstrable experience leading teams or crews

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts used in multi-device networks, including IP addressing, IP sub-netting, and network switching
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to learn and develop new knowledge quickly
  • Ability to have a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects
