Job Description

Workplace Classification:

Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

This people-leader will be responsible for leading the development of Electrification Battery Systems Controls and Calibrations to meet vehicle requirements on-time. This activity includes developing a team of problem-solving engineers without support, translate strategy into clear direction, able to partition system into reasonable sub-systems for implementation and testing. In this role you will set the direction and independently lead global and/or GMNA multi-functional teams for issue resolution. The preferred candidate will be strongly skilled in Project Planning, Team Building, System Engineering and Controls and Calibration Technologies. This position allows the opportunity to exercise highly independent judgment and provide creative solutions!

What You'll Do:
  • Provide leadership and guide the team through the development of standard work processes and performance requirements.
  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant or customer issues relating to calibration release.
  • Ensure a collaborative environment to support critical initiatives (across vehicle programs) sharing technology, solutions, releases, etc. to enable meeting corporate performance, cost, quality, and timing objectives.
  • Hire new talent, mentor employees, develop objectives and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Execute individual training and Business Plan objectives.
  • Manage Intellectual Property Transfer as appropriate.
  • Manage the group's budget for people, vehicles, testing, and support.
  • Keep abreast of new technology and competitive products.
  • Travel to support program buy-off rides, up to 4 weeks annually.
  • Adhere to all Safety Precautions and Requirements and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities.
  • Build strong working relationships to other functional areas, including but not limited to Controls & Algorithms, Diagnostics, Electrification Calibration Colleagues, Electrification Hardware Program Team, Vehicle Platform Program Team, Integration Team and System Safety.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent Engineering field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with propulsion system development and/or controls integration experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership proficiency.
  • High level of analytical problem-solving skills, where problems are very unusual and difficult.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse personnel, encourage engineers, and obtain results.
  • Willing and able to work off hours to communicate with other regional calibration sites.
  • Willing and able travel up to 4 weeks annually.
  • Possess a valid driver license with the ability to operate and drive test vehicles.
  • Must be willing to work on and off-site (This role is not compatible with 100% remote work.).


What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 10 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • 3 or more years of Calibration experience, especially in the Electrification area.
