Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to support packaging and shipping operations across multiple programs. This role involves collaboration with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), suppliers, and shipping departments to ensure compliance with packaging standards, hazardous materials regulations, and transportation requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, hands-on experience with packaging systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for packaging and shipping coordination across all MFC sites.
  • Develop and maintain Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) and ensure compliance with DOT CFR 49 and POP requirements.
  • Coordinate truck requests and ensure proper packaging materials and crates are available on-site.
  • Track and manage reusable shipping crates, initiating repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Prepare and process shipping documents, address labels, and container identification.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on damaged shipments and implement corrective actions.
  • Plan and execute Performance Oriented Packaging (POP) testing, including test planning, coordination, observation, and reporting.
  • Ensure all Packaging, Handling, and Storage (PHS) reviews are conducted and documented.
  • Support hazardous materials packaging in compliance with DOT, ICAO, and IMDG regulations.
  • Interface with vendors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to improve packaging designs and processes.
  • Utilize ASTM D 3951 standards for commercial packaging and ensure one-year storage capability without damage.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience in packaging engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of shipping practices, inspection requirements, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, MSDS, and packaging documentation.
  • Ability to read blueprints and operate packaging and material handling equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with purchase request systems and shipping documentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience with MCAD tools (CREO, PTC Pro/E).
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with military specifications and RFID technology.
  • Experience with CFR Title 49, ICAO, and IMDG regulations.
  • Knowledge of ASTM D 3951 commercial packaging standards.
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) software and workflow processes.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work overtime as needed.
