Job Description

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with DevOps exposure to join our growing technology team in the Chicago area. This role will focus on managing and supporting PostgreSQL environments in production, ensuring performance, availability, and scalability, while also driving automation and infrastructure best practices.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced global environment, with a proven track record in production database support and DevOps-driven deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production environments.

  • Manage AWS RDS for PostgreSQL (configuration, scaling, optimization).

  • Provide production support, including on-call responsibilities.

  • Implement backup, recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.

  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries.

  • Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless deployments.

  • Drive automation and process improvements in database operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of strong experience with PostgreSQL administration.

  • Hands-on expertise with AWS (RDS for PostgreSQL, EC2, S3, etc.).

  • Deep knowledge of monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting tools.

  • Strong understanding of backup/recovery, HA, and DR solutions.

  • Proven experience with production support and on-call rotation.

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, etc.).

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Exposure to managing large-scale distributed data platforms.
