Summary: As a Graduate Engineer on our Public Works team, the prospective employee will gain hands-on experience in the design and delivery of critical municipal infrastructure projects. This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity to become familiar the programs, staff, and operating procedures of LJA. Under the supervision of a licensed engineer, the prospective employee will assist in the development of a wide range of public works projects, including water, wastewater, drainage, and roadway systems.

Responsibilities include performing design calculations, conducting hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, preparing CAD exhibits and plans, completing quantity take-offs and cost estimates, and supporting the development of technical reports.

General Responsibilities:
  • Perform engineering tasks under the guidance and supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Apply established methods to complete defined project assignments.
  • Assist with civil infrastructure design using CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to evaluate drainage issues and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare project deliverables, including quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to support project objectives.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, on-time, cost-effective solutions.

Required Education/Licensure:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification in Texas, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Experience:
  • Completion of at least one civil engineering internship.
  • 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering and infrastructure design.

Preferred Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency or familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Exposure to storm water modeling software such as HEC-RAS or XPSWMM.
