Description:
Job Title: Engineering Technician

Work Location: Onsite in Eagan, MN

Duration: Direct Hire

Job Summary:

The Engineering Technician will provide engineering and manufacturing support for the development of new products or the improvement of existing products. This includes design, documentation, and validation testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and document processes for CTOs (configure-to-order).
  • Collaborate with product managers to document new products.
  • Design manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Write work instructions.
  • Create detailed drawings and internal label specifications.
  • Process document change orders (DCOs) promptly, accurately, and completely.
  • Design new molded silicone parts and molds.
  • Perform tasks in compliance with Summit Medical agency listings and certifications (ISO 13485, FDA registration).
  • Follow Summit Medical product development processes as defined in the Summit Medical Quality System.
  • Conduct validation tests and test studies.
  • Support first article inspections of new parts and designs.
  • Support IQ, OQ, PQ (installation, operation, and process qualifications).
  • Support documentation requirements for the Design History File.
  • Foster interdepartmental relationships and teamwork.
  • Assist manufacturing in producing products that meet company quality standards, cost targets, and production schedules.
  • Provide complete documentation to support purchasing.
  • Evaluate products for corrective and preventative actions to support quality.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing, including assistance with show samples, prototypes, and CAD renderings.
  • Provide part cost information to accounting as required.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to apply learned technology to company products and processes.
  • Willingness to learn, suggest, and apply new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including molding, injection, transfer molding (silicone), casting, metals fabrication, packaging, and labeling.
  • Knowledge of clean room and sterilization processes.
  • Product design knowledge, including design for manufacturing and drafting standards.
  • Hands-on approach and desire to troubleshoot equipment and assist in production.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Relevant associate's degree.
  • Excellent computer skills with SolidWorks, 3D printing, AutoCAD (DraftSight), Microsoft Visio, Project, OneNote, LabelView or labeling software, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical experience in Engineering CAD Technology, Engineering Drafting and Design Technology, or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to install, assemble, repair, and maintain production equipment.
  • Experience in the medical device industry beneficial for IQ execution and documentation needs.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the facility.
  • Perform most manufacturing operations on an intermittent basis.
  • Climb ladders, lift up to 45 pounds, and position as needed to construct, repair, and maintain plant equipment.
  • Must be able to fulfill all requirements for cleanroom access.
  • Perform microscope work.
