Highway Design Manager

Rochester, NY or New York City, NY | Full-Time | PE License Required

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Highway Design Manager to lead a growing transportation design department across multiple office locations. This role involves overseeing a team of highway engineers, managing transportation projects, preparing technical proposals, and ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client and regulatory expectations.

As a senior leader, you will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff, contributing to strategic business development initiatives, and helping shape the long-term growth of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage highway design teams in multiple office locations.
• Oversee the preparation of project documents, designs, and contract plans for roadway rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
• Ensure compliance with agency standards (e.g., NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT) and perform quality assurance reviews.
• Support proposal development and client presentations for transportation projects.
• Serve as a mentor to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge-sharing.
• Represent the organization at client meetings and business development events.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of New York (required).
• 10+ years of experience in highway or roadway design.
• Proficiency with:
• Bentley MicroStation V8i / Connect Edition
• Bentley InRoads, OpenRoads, and OpenBridge
• AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Experience with CAD modeling of highways and preparation of construction documents.
• Solid knowledge of NYSDOT, NYSTA, and NYCDOT procedures and standards.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, lead teams, and deliver high-quality work.
