Electrical Engineer

Location: Chantilly VA

Clearance Required: Current TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to pass a polygraph.

Leidos is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior level Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting mission-critical operations in secure government facilities. This is an exceptional opportunity to grow your technical expertise while contributing to the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical power systems that keep national operations running smoothly.

Under the mentorship of senior engineers, you'll gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of electrical infrastructure-from design and documentation to field testing and commissioning. If you're ready to apply your engineering skills in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, we want to hear from you.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the design and layout of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
  • Create and update single-line diagrams, protection/control schematics, and equipment specifications
  • Participate in field inspections, functional testing, and commissioning of electrical systems
  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, systems, and vendor teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions
  • Assist in evaluating and specifying electrical components (e.g., transformers, switchgear, UPS systems)
  • Contribute to engineering documentation, technical reports, and maintenance policy development
  • Support power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and grounding analysis
  • Gain exposure to SCADA systems, substation design, and renewable energy integration
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Microsoft Office tools for design and documentation

Basic Qualifications
  • Current TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to pass a polygraph is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 2-4 years of experience, or Master's degree with less than 2 years of experience (additional experience may substitute for degree)
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and their application to real-world projects
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience in electrical system design including power distribution, lighting, and controls
  • Familiarity with commercial electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and related CAD tools
  • Awareness of energy-efficient and sustainable design practices
  • Exposure to medium voltage systems, backup generators, UPS, and lighting controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex technical challenges

Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE (Professional Engineer) certification
  • Experience with SCADA systems, substation design, and renewable energy integration
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and technical documentation
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Familiarity with project management practices including scheduling and budgeting
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to safety, quality, and innovation
  • Experience with reactive maintenance and industrial control systems (PLCs, instrumentation)

This role is ideal for early-career engineers looking to build a strong foundation in electrical infrastructure while supporting national security operations. Join Leidos and help power the future of government facility engineering.

EC-DAS

At Leidos, we don't want someone who "fits the mold"-we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, "what's next?" before the dust settles on "what's now."

If you're already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2... good. You'll fit right in.
