Job Title: Java Architect - eCommerce Platform
Location: Remote (Canada)
Job Type: Long-Term Contract


Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Java Architect with 15+ years of overall IT experience and at least 5 years in a technology consulting or solution architecture role within the eCommerce domain. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in architecting complex digital commerce solutions using platforms such as Commerce Tools, Shopify Enterprise, or Oracle Web Commerce, and deep experience with cloud-native microservices, Java, and cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect scalable, high-performance eCommerce solutions using modern Java frameworks and cloud-native technologies.
  • Lead technical discussions and workshops with client stakeholders to define architecture strategy and delivery roadmaps.
  • Define and implement solutions addressing non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, and disaster recovery.
  • Design and oversee the development of cloud-based APIs, microservices, and integration frameworks across platforms.
  • Provide technology consulting to eCommerce clients and convert opportunities into tangible project engagements.
  • Collaborate with internal and client engineering teams to deliver digital transformation solutions, including app modernization and cloud migration.
  • Drive enterprise-wide initiatives involving Generative AI adoption for software development life cycle (SDLC) optimization or business impact.
  • Ensure alignment with best practices in application architecture, CI/CD, DevOps, and agile methodologies.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • 15+ years of total IT experience, with 5+ years in a client-facing architecture or consulting role.
  • Strong hands-on architecture and implementation experience in platforms like commercetools, Shopify Plus, or Oracle Web Commerce.
  • Proven background in Java 11+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and REST API design.
  • Experience with cloud-native development and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with non-functional architecture design (performance, security, HA, DR).
  • Strong consulting skills with the ability to identify opportunities and deliver technology-driven business outcomes.
  • Experience leading workshops and engaging directly with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience in cloud environments: Google Cloud Platform (preferred), AWS, or Azure.
  • Exposure to generative AI initiatives within enterprise SDLC or operations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
