The Associate VP, Software Engineering is responsible for all aspects of software product delivery and performance. The AVP requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide. The scope of responsibility will encompass communications, applications and infrastructure, including the policies and procedures which apply. This position ensures the integration of various elements of technology so that they function effectively for end users.

Job Description:

The Associate VP, Software Engineering is accountable for solution engineering and delivery for Humana Military. The AVP leads the design, engineering, and test team to drive products from design completion to production release. The AVP develops technology strategy, executes on the strategy, and operates the technology ecosystem to support serving our beneficiaries. The position will be responsible for maintaining software and servers and ensuring proper administration of software licensing and updates. Supports product evaluation and qualification on leading edge technology components. Ensures that production schedules are followed, and product(s) meet specifications and quality requirements. Decisions are typically related to intradepartmental coordination, development and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes, and develops and implements strategic plans for the scope of management that are aligned with the Segment or Business strategy. The position may work with the disaster recovery function in planning and coordinating business continuity efforts, including backup and restoration of data and ensuring high systems availability.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct leadership and accountability for organization
  • Provide leadership and direction for multiple teams responsible for solutions including design, architecture, engineering, delivery, and production management.
  • Responsible for leading cross-functional teams as we enhance our strategic use of technology and data analytics in support of data-informed decision-making across the company
  • Improve user experience, enhance processes, and achieve operational excellence
  • Partner with IT development team leaders and functional stakeholders to plan, analyze and deliver enterprise applications, APIs, and tools to meet both operation and strategic needs
  • Providing a high level of customer service by delivering functionality and responding to customer requests in a timely manner
  • Provide vision and direction in the development and the establishment of an architectural direction and technology strategy for the area
  • Influence executive leadership regarding investment in recommended strategic technology solutions
  • Works with senior management to help define and establish the information systems, and platform strategy.
  • Deliver solutions using existing technology/platforms as well as solutions that utilize new technology/solutions based on optimal solution analysis
  • Responsible for shaping and executing the technology strategy enables contract compliance, business growth and digital transformation
  • Accountable for delivering technology innovation and modernization, ensuring technology enables Defense Health Agency (DHA)'s strategic plan and beneficiary experience outcomes
  • Responsible to work closely with Humana Military leaders across operational areas to develop the technology strategic plan and execute on the roadmap
  • Oversee implementation of platforms and foundational services including end user technology experience platforms, application infrastructure services, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, and data and analytics platforms.
  • Lead the agile delivery with an enterprise mindset to achieve the most critical business outcomes focused on beneficiary experience
  • Lead talent transformation and associate engagement by empowering and mentoring an exceptional technology organization

Team Building and Management
  • Work with team members to develop and execute action plans designed to achieve and maintain a high level of associate engagement.
  • Provide effective team leadership by ensuring each member understands their role and expected contributions by holding regular 1 x 1 meetings and team meetings.
  • Provide leadership direction to leaders regarding escalation and resolution of complex client issues through extensive knowledge and experience.
  • Proactively engages with associates to understand each individual's needs and career objectives, promoting employee career growth and establishing aligned team and individual goals.
  • Conduct performance appraisals as directed by company policy

Required Qualifications:
  • At least 10 + years of progressive leadership experience within a technology area in a large segment / business
  • 3+ years of large scale technology solution delivery experience
  • 15+ years technology experience
  • Deep expertise and demonstrated experience in enterprise scale applications
  • Experience with Healthcare business
  • Experience with cloud services and SaaS platforms
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, business management or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in managing change by leading and energizing others through periods of transformation, ambiguity, and complexity
  • Experience leading technology services in a highly regulated business
  • Proven ability to operate effectively and independently with minimal guidance in a highly fluid
  • and ambiguous environment
  • Excellent communication, story-telling and influencing skills
  • Experience with collaborating at executive leadership level
  • Experience with Visio, Microsoft Office or similar tools
  • Established ability to successfully work with cross-functional team and work well with other architects/leaders/teams
  • Healthcare related experience
  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-changing environment; be nimble and adaptable, handle ambiguity
  • Department of Defense contract requires U.S. citizenship for this position
  • Successfully receive interim approval for government security clearance (eQIP - electronic questionnaire for investigation processing)
  • Humana and its subsidiaries require vaccinated associates who work outside of their home to submit proof of vaccination, including COVID-19 boosters. Associates who remain unvaccinated must either undergo weekly negative COVID testing OR wear a mask at all times while in a Humana facility or while working in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing technology services for a federal contract
  • Experience with TRICARE or other federal contracts and technology integrations
  • Experience with technology compliance to federal contract requirements

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$189,400 - $260,500 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
