Job Title: Lead SharePoint Portal Developer & Solutions Architect

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Employment Type: 1-Year Contract

Position Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on Lead SharePoint Developer & Solutions Architect to design, build, and lead the implementation of an advanced, interactive SharePoint Portal/Communication Hub solution integrated with multiple enterprise and third-party systems. This individual will lead a team of two developers while remaining fully engaged in architecture and hands-on development.

This role goes far beyond traditional SharePoint customization you will architect and develop custom modern web parts and UI components using JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue, and build robust integrations with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Outlook, Teams, Bookings, Graph API) and external platforms (Workday, Laserfiche, LinkedIn, Freshdesk/ServiceNow, and proprietary systems).

You must be a forward-thinking technologist who is innovative and able to leverage modern techniques and tools beyond the Microsoft ecosystem when appropriate. The ideal candidate has a consulting or digital agency background, demonstrates strong delivery discipline, and excels at communicating with both senior business stakeholders and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Architecture, Customization, & Development

  • Architect scalable SharePoint Online environments with custom functionality and modern front-end components - Define and lead the SharePoint solution architecture, including integration strategy and UI framework choices.
  • Customization & Development - Deliver high-impact functionality tailored to organizational workflows.
  • Develop advanced SPFx web parts using React or Vue and extend SharePoint capabilities as needed.
  • Innovate beyond standard Microsoft solutions where appropriate leveraging open-source frameworks, headless services, or hybrid-cloud approaches.

Integration & Automation

  • Develop and manage API integrations with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Teams, Bookings), Workday (time tracking), ServiceNow/Freshdesk (ticketing), Laserfiche, LinkedIn, and internal systems.
  • Build secure, efficient workflows using Power Automate, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, or custom connectors.

Front-End Development & UX

  • Build advanced UI components with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and libraries like React or Vue.
  • Deliver intuitive and engaging user experiences (responsive/accessible), including modals, responsive layouts, dashboards, and forms based.
  • Work closely with the UX team to develop from Figma prototypes.

Search & Information Discovery

  • Implement enterprise-wide faceted search experiences using Microsoft Search, Microsoft Graph, and custom connectors.
  • Enhance discoverability and UX across SharePoint and integrated systems using metadata, tagging, and custom interfaces.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience in SharePoint architecture and implementation including deep knowledge of SharePoint Online, SPFx, and Microsoft 365 integrations.
  • Minimum five (5) years of SharePoint development experience, preferably client-side coded solutions including C# and ASP.NET experience (preferred).
  • Minimum five (5) years of advanced HTML/CSS UI development including advanced Ajax and JavaScript programming experience (frameworks like React or Vue).
  • Experience with PowerApps, Power Automate, and the Microsoft Graph API.
  • Strong understanding of REST, JSON, XML, and API integration best practices.
  • Familiarity with Azure services (Functions, AD, Logic Apps) and enterprise security/compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise search tools and techniques.
  • Ability to evaluate and integrate modern tools, services, and approaches beyond the Microsoft ecosystem when appropriate.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
