Title: Pi Historian Data Engineer

Location: Alpharetta, GA

Duration: 12 Months

JD:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer with specialized experience in industrial data historians, particularly AVEVA PI Historian, to join our growing data engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our data pipelines, with a strong focus on ingesting, processing, and analyzing time-series data from our operational systems. You will work closely with process engineers, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure the reliable and efficient flow of critical operational data into our analytical platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer who thrives on solving complex data challenges, leveraging modern cloud technologies, and contributing to data-driven insights that impact operational efficiency and business outcomes.
What You'll Do:

  • Develop and maintain robust data pipelines: Design, build, and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) processes for time-series data originating from PI Historian (or similar historian systems).
  • Historian Integration & Management:
  • Work with AVEVA PI Historian (or other historian technologies) to extract, query, and integrate time-series data into our broader data ecosystem.
  • Develop solutions for efficient data retrieval and analysis from the historian.
  • Configuration and administration of historian data collection and archival processes.
  • Software Development:
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code using .NET and Python for data processing, API development, and automation tasks.
  • Build and maintain robust APIs for accessing and interacting with historical data.
  • Database Management:
  • Design, implement, and optimize SQL databases for storing and querying processed time-series data and related metadata.
  • Perform database performance tuning and ensure data integrity.
  • Cloud Engineering (Google Cloud Platform Focus):
  • Leverage Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) services such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions to build scalable and resilient data solutions.
  • Implement data warehousing and data lake strategies on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Utilize cloud-native tools for monitoring, logging, and CI/CD.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture:
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of efficient data models for time-series and related data.
  • Collaborate with data architects to ensure data solutions align with overall enterprise architecture.
  • Collaboration & Support:
  • Work closely with domain experts, process engineers, and analysts to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for data pipelines and related systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices within the data engineering team.
  • What You'll Bring:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 3+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role.
    • Proven experience working with industrial data historians, with a strong preference for AVEVA PI Historian.
    • Strong programming skills in .NET (C#) and Python.
    • Proficiency in SQL for database querying and manipulation.
    • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, with a significant focus on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). Familiarity with specific Google Cloud Platform services like BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub is highly desirable.
    • Experience with time-series data concepts and analysis.
    • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
    • Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and methodologies.
    • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

    Bonus Points:

    • Experience with other historian technologies (e.g., Aspen InfoPlus.21, GE Proficy Historian, Honeywell Process Historian Database(PHD) ).
    • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes or specific industry domains relevant to our operations.
