Position: OIPA Engineer
Location: Remote (Must be based in the EST time zone, anywhere in the US)
Onsite Requirement: Open to quarterly onsite meetings if required
Corporate Base (as needed): Smithfield, RI | Boston, MA | Westlake, TX | Durham, NC | Merrimack, NH
Duration: 12 Months (Contract)
Interview Process: 2–3 Rounds
Work Model: Hybrid (must adhere to client’s hybrid policy changes)
Role Overview
As a Senior / Principal Software Engineer – OIPA, you will play a key role in maintaining, enhancing, and modernizing annuity policy administration systems using Oracle Insurance Policy Administration (OIPA). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support system upgrades, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure stable, secure, and scalable solutions.
This is primarily a maintenance and support-focused role, with limited development (approximately 10%), requiring strong OIPA expertise and working knowledge of Java and Oracle databases.
What the Team Does
Supports and maintains Oracle OIPA for FILI
Currently installing OIPA v10.2 with a roadmap to upgrade to v11
Focused on leveraging a single configurable system to improve efficiency and accelerate product launches
Enables product changes through configuration rather than core code customization
Technology Stack
Policy Administration: Oracle OIPA
Application Servers: WebLogic, WebSphere
Databases: Oracle, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server
Operating Systems: Oracle Enterprise Linux, Windows Server 2012
Java: Java 1.8 (maintenance, troubleshooting, installations)
Cloud (Nice to Have): AWS, Kubernetes
Development Tools: Eclipse, Spring Tool Suite
Testing: JUnit, Jasmine, Karma, Protractor
Required Skills & Experience
4+ years of hands-on experience with Oracle OIPA in policy administration systems
Strong expertise in:
OIPA configuration language
AS Files, integrations, and data intake
Database architecture and data extraction patterns
OIPA security, palettes, and application screens
Working knowledge of Java (1.8) for troubleshooting, maintenance, and installations
Experience writing simple to moderate SQL queries and debugging stored procedures
Experience working in UNIX and Windows environments
Solid understanding of design patterns and UML
Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD)
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
Experience with AWS and/or Kubernetes (OIPA recently moved to the cloud)
Understanding of Docker and cloud-native concepts
AWS Certification
Experience supporting large-scale insurance or annuity platforms
