Job Details

Server Administrator – Windows Server Team

Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid – Tues/Wed/Thurs onsite, Mon/Fri remote)
Work Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
On-Call: Required (one week every 5 weeks) – must be available 24/7 during rotation
Pay Rate: $45-$50/hour W2

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Server Administrator to join our Windows Server Team. This role is responsible for the administration, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server infrastructure, ensuring consistent performance, uptime, and security. You will support over 2,000 servers, primarily virtualized on VMware, along with physical servers.


Key Responsibilities

Server Administration & Monitoring – 20%

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain server systems (hardware and software) across multiple platforms.

  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning.

  • Collaborate with vendors and end users to resolve issues.

Upgrades & Configuration – 20%

  • Upgrade and configure servers from multiple vendors.

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure high-level support.

  • Plan and coordinate system upgrades from testing through production.

Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization – 20%

  • Diagnose and resolve server performance issues.

  • Adjust configurations and produce error/utilization reports.

  • Monitor and control server/system performance.

Security, Backup & Disaster Recovery – 20%

  • Maintain access controls and authorization levels.

  • Execute data backups and disaster recovery operations.

  • Enforce and update security/compliance procedures.

Audit & Compliance – 10%

  • Address security vulnerabilities within audit-mandated timeframes.

  • Ensure server compliance with internal and external audit standards.

  • Participate in ongoing process reviews and updates.

Documentation & Process Improvement – 5%

  • Maintain accurate process/procedure documentation.

  • Provide feedback to improve user guides and training.

Professional Development – 5%

  • Stay current with emerging server technologies and best practices


Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field OR

  • 4 years of directly related experience OR

  • Associate degree + 2 years of related experience

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in server administration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field

  • 5+ years of experience in server infrastructure support, monitoring, and implementation

  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ (preferred)
