Position: Cable Technician

Location: Seffner, FL (this role will require travel)

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and organized Technical Operations (Tech OPS) - Infrastructure Cable Technician. This role involves installing data and voice cable systems for our internal IT systems nationwide. Responsibilities include building racks, pulling cables, cable maintenance, site surveys, and assisting with the installation of network equipment. The ideal candidate will act as a technical lead/liaison between our Store/DC Technicians and end users (including leaders) for support, planning, and implementation of new cable runs, infrastructure builds, and retrofits. A passion for operational excellence and excellent interpersonal and soft skills are essential.

Note: This position requires extensive travel (greater than 90%).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accountabilities:
  • Establish relationships with store staff, management, and support leadership.
  • Travel to assigned locations throughout the region to provide cabling and infrastructure support.
  • Plan and execute cabling projects and minor cabling requests.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the cable network at assigned sites.
  • Provide problem resolution related to cabling infrastructure for end-users while on site.
  • Account for all assets and tools that are the property of the Client while in your possession.
  • Ensure all site documentation for current projects is complete and low voltage maps are up to date.

Dimensions/Scope:
  • Covers all Client locations.
  • Comfortable working at heights between 20-60 ft.
  • Supports user infrastructure in assigned locations.
  • Legal and insured motor vehicle operator.
  • Ability to read blueprints and structured cabling diagrams.
  • Can lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Participates in and supports cross-technology process improvement initiatives.
  • Traveling position: 90%+ travel required, including overnight work.

Qualifications

A combination of experience, education, and training that provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.

Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in a customer service role.
  • At least 5 years of experience installing and supporting IT infrastructure.
  • Verifiable expertise in:
  • Reading and interpreting architectural drawings (Low Voltage Blueprints).
  • Detailed knowledge of current Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, 365, etc).
  • Working with service level agreements.
  • Networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with:
  • ITIL fundamentals.
  • ServiceNow platform for documentation.
  • Project management fundamentals.
    Education and Training:
    • At least 5 years of experience installing structured cabling systems.
    • IT industry certifications required:
    • CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (or gained within one year).
    • Network Certification (or gained within one year) - CompTIA, CCNA.
    • Microsoft 365 Fundamentals (or gained within one year).
  • IT industry certifications preferred:
  • ITIL v4 Foundations.
  • BICSI - Level 1 Cable Tech Certification (or higher).
  • Cisco Certified Technician (CCT).

    • We are a retail business; after-hours and weekend/holiday time is required.
