Job Details

Apptech Group is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join their team in supporting and modernizing database systems and related applications for a state government initiative.

The role focuses on maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing SQL Server environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and security across multiple systems. This position requires expertise in SQL Server administration, ETL and SSIS processes, and close collaboration with application and infrastructure teams to implement remediation and modernization activities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain SQL Server environments, including installation, configuration, monitoring, patching, and performance tuning.
  • Support and enhance ETL processes using SSIS and other integration tools.
  • Perform SQL Server upgrades and migrations to ensure systems remain secure and current.
  • Work with development teams to identify and implement application remediation related to database dependencies and compatibility issues.
  • Administer and optimize Power BI Reporting Portals, ensuring connectivity and data refresh schedules are stable and secure.
  • Manage and update IIS configurations supporting web-based reporting and portal applications.
  • Perform regular database performance analysis, indexing, and optimization to ensure efficient data processing.
  • Implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and data governance standards as mandated by state IT policies.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and infrastructure staff to support data-driven initiatives and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, data flow diagrams, and maintenance plans.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in database administration, including SQL Server
  • Strong experience with:
    • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
    • SSIS and ETL development/support
    • Power BI Gateway and Reporting Portal Administration
    • IIS configuration and management
    • T-SQL scripting and performance tuning
  • Proven experience with database migration and SQL Server upgrade projects.
  • Experience working within state or public-sector IT environments preferred.
  • Understanding of data security, compliance.
  • Familiarity with Azure SQL, cloud migration strategies, or hybrid data environments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and ability to work independently in a remote team environment.
