Role: Reporting Data Lead Location: NYC - Remote Duration: 18+ Months
Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Reporting Data Lead with strong technical expertise in SQL Server to manage and enhance our enterprise reporting infrastructure. This role will be responsible for leading the design, development, and delivery of data-driven reports and dashboards, ensuring high data quality and accuracy across multiple business units.
As the Reporting Data Lead, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective data solutions, lead reporting initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in data processes and reporting tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of complex SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, and functions to support business reporting.
Ensure high data quality, performance tuning, and integrity across multiple systems and platforms.
Translate business requirements into efficient SQL queries and data models.
Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver actionable insights.
Establish and enforce data governance, documentation, and best practices for reporting.
Support ETL/ELT processes and assist with troubleshooting data pipeline issues.
Mentor and guide junior team members and analysts on SQL and data visualization practices.
Drive continuous improvement in reporting frameworks and suggest new data technologies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in data reporting and analytics, including at least 3 years as a lead or senior role.
Deep technical expertise in SQL Server (T-SQL, SSMS, indexing, performance tuning).
Proficient in Power BI, SSRS, or other enterprise reporting platforms.
Strong knowledge of data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schemas).
Experience working with large datasets, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and version control (e.g., Git).
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred / Bonus Skills:
Prior experience working with NYC Public Sector agencies (e.g., HRA, DOE, DSS).
Mainframe knowledge (e.g., familiarity with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, or mainframe-based data sources).
Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
Familiarity with cloud or hybrid Cognos deployments.
Education:
Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline.
