Job Details

The Leidos National Security Sector currently has an opening for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support our team in Mechanicsburg, PA. The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for overseeing the design, security, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise database systems. Additionally, the DBA will ensure database security, performance optimization, and high availability while supporting business continuity and compliance requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Mentor and guide mid-level and junior DBAs.
  • Design, implement, and maintain complex database architectures.
  • Establish and enforce database security policies and best practices, including, but not limited to, the STIGs.
  • Lead database planning, provisioning, installation, configuration, migrations, upgrades, and patching.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new database technologies and features, where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with software developers and system architects to ensure correct and efficient database design and coding standards.
  • Automate database administration and monitoring tasks to improve operational efficiency.
  • Implement database object changes in releases.
  • Create and maintain complex SQL release scripts.
  • Ensure that database releases execute in an idempotent manner and without error in all target environments and configurations.
  • Create and maintain complex ad-hoc SQL data scripts to correct application data.
  • Perform peer reviews of SQL scripts and database object and configuration changes.
  • Document the database environment, standard procedures, and best practices.
  • Design and optimize database performance and scalability for high-volume applications.
  • Provide performance recommendations and perform complex database index optimization, query tuning, and server tuning tasks.
  • Support backup and recovery processes.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database issues to minimize downtime and improve reliability.

Basic Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • : Currently possessing or ability to successfully obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance upon hire.
  • Excellent data analysis, technical analysis, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong database design and database development skills.
  • Very strong Microsoft SQL skills, particularly in Transact-SQL (T-SQL) programming and scripting.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining databases in large, enterprise-scale systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Familiarity or experience with the following:
    • Microsoft Visual Studio
    • Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)/Azure DevOps (ADO)
    • SQL Server Data Projects/DACPAC
    • RedGate SQLPrompt
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
    • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
    • Extended Events
    • PowerShell
    • Git
    • Entity Framework/LINQ
    • DoD Database Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG)
  • Knowledge of DoD Property Accountability, Accounting Standards and Financial Reporting, Fleet Management, Supply Chain Management, and/or Weapons and Ammunition.
