Job Description:

Position Summary: We are seeking a Grid Market Interconnection Engineer with expertise in North American bulk electric system operations and ISO market structures to provide technical guidance to our control system engineering team. This role focuses on ensuring BESS plant controller compliance with regulatory requirements and optimal participation in ancillary services markets across various ISO territories.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical guidance on regulatory compliance for BESS plant controllers operating in ISO markets including PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ERCOT, and others

Review and validate control system designs for compliance with NERC and IEEE reliability standards and regional market rules

Advise on ancillary services participation strategies for frequency regulation, spinning reserves, non spinning reserves, voltage support services, FFR (Fast Frequency Response), and PRF (Primary Reserve Frequency)

Support ICCP implementation and configuration for real time market communication with ISOs and RTOs

Collaborate with control system engineers on setpoint management, state of charge optimization, and market dispatch integration

Interpret market signals and requirements for translation into PLC control logic and HMI displays

Support performance validation testing to ensure market participation requirements are met

Interface with utility customers, schedulers, and market operators on technical requirements

Stay current with evolving market rules and grid codes affecting energy storage participation

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field

5+ years of experience in bulk electric system operations, preferably with an ISO, RTO, or utility control center

Strong understanding of North American electricity markets and ancillary services

Experience with ICCP protocol implementation and configuration

Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and regional compliance requirements

Familiarity with energy storage market participation rules across multiple ISO territories

Understanding of real time dispatch, scheduling, and settlement processes

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with BESS or other energy storage technologies in grid applications

Background in power system control center operations or market operations

Professional Engineering (PE) license

Experience with SCADA systems and real time data exchange protocols

Knowledge of grid forming and grid following inverter technologies
