General Function
The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting robust data solutions, platforms, and tools that empower the bank to manage, secure, and extract value from its data assets. This role involves creating scalable, reusable systems for collecting, storing, processing, and serving data from operational to big data environments leveraging both on-premises and cloud-based platforms. Domains of work include ETL, business intelligence, analytics, data warehousing, messaging systems, stream processing, and machine learning.
This individual must uphold the highest standards of risk management by actively communicating concerns, Design, develop, and support scalable data solutions, APIs, and related tools.
- Collaborate with IT teams, enterprise architects, infrastructure, InfoSec, and business stakeholders to transform strategic needs into technical data solutions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on topics such as system design, integration, performance, and security.
- Conduct research on emerging technologies in banking, data architecture, security, and engineering.
- Work with developers to build CI/CD pipelines and deploy automation tools.
- Evaluate software and provide documented technical recommendations.
- Provide Level 2/3 support and participate in on-call rotations for critical incidents.
- Contribute to hardware/software planning and internal system projects.
- Create technical documentation, improve monitoring/analytics, and modernize legacy systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 7+ years of relevant IT experience in a data engineering or similar role.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor technical and business concepts to various audiences.
- Solid understanding of application/data security, vulnerabilities, and best practices.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following:
- Big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
- Metadata management tools
- ETL platforms (e.g., Informatica, Talend)
- Business Intelligence/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
- REST API design and Java development
- CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI)
- Infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience working with offshore and cross-functional teams preferred.
- Prior financial services or banking industry experience is a strong plus.
Work Environment and Other Requirements
- Hybrid or on-site role depending on organizational policy.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support critical deployments or resolve incidents.
