Title: Quality Engineer PCBA & Visual Inspection
Duration: 6 months
Location: New Kensington, PA 15068 [Candidate must be able to work onsite.]
Schedule: Monday- Friday 7am- 3:30pm
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Supplier Quality Engineer with a strong background in PCBA manufacturing and visual inspection to support quality assurance efforts at supplier sites. This role ensures compliance with IPC standards, drives supplier performance improvement, and supports transition of value-add activities from OEM to supplier manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
PCBA Supplier Quality Oversight
Perform onsite inspections and audits of PCBA manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with industry and customer quality standards.
Evaluate First Pass Yield (FPY) data, identify trends, and collaborate with suppliers and OEM Engineering/R&D teams to resolve recurring issues.
Investigate failure modes using root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Assess and validate supplier testing procedures for robustness, repeatability, and alignment with quality expectations and best practices.
Recommend process and testing improvements to enhance FPY and overall product quality.
Act as the primary liaison between supplier and OEM quality/engineering teams, ensuring transparent communication and accountability.
Oversee first article qualifications for new PCBA builds, including transitions of processes such as conformal coating and functional testing from OEM to supplier.
Provide regular reporting and updates to OEM teams, highlighting key findings, risks, and actions.
Visual Inspection & Compliance
Perform visual inspections of solder joints and conformal coating on circuit card assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001 standards.
Use inspection tools and techniques (micrometers, indicators, scales, etc.) to verify component and assembly quality.
Follow detailed work instructions, checklists, and engineering drawings for compliance to manufacturing and customer specifications.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience in electro-mechanical and/or printed circuit board assembly.
2+ years of solder/visual inspection experience, or 3+ years of hands-on soldering/assembly of electronic assemblies.
1+ year of conformal coating process experience.
Strong working knowledge of IPC-A-610 & IPC-J-STD-001 standards and ability to interpret technical documentation.
Experience working with FPY metrics, quality data analysis, and RCA/CAPA processes.
Comfortable interacting with both internal teams and external suppliers, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Highly organized, process-oriented, and proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.
