Job Details

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Kong API Gateway Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in API development, management, and automation, with strong knowledge of cloud platforms and API security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, configure, and manage Kong API Gateway instances across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Design, develop, and implement APIs using Kong, including custom plugins and integrations with backend services.
  • Implement and enforce API security policies (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS), optimize API performance, and ensure high availability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot APIs using tools like Dynatrace or ELK stack, proactively resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for APIs, configurations, and procedures.
  • Participate in CI/CD processes and automation pipelines; advocate best practices in API management (versioning, access control, documentation).

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience with Kong API Gateway, including architecture, functionalities, and plugin development.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, OpenAPI, OIDC, and web services/microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Lua, Python) and experience with DevOps tools (Git, Git Actions, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and API security tools (OAuth, OIDC, Auth0).
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Certifications in Kong or related technologies.
  • Experience with API testing tools (Postman, JMeter, Insomnia).
  • Familiarity with integration platforms like IBM DataPower or WebSphere MQ.
  • Experience with Confluence for documentation.
