Build & Release Engineer 3 (Remote)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Build & Release Engineer 3 for their Portland, OR location. This full-time contract position will work within the Quality Assurance (JLQ) organization. This position is a function within the Production Control team. The team is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and implementing changes to infrastructure and software components, within the environments where they reside. The team performs the tasks of predicting, planning, and scheduling work, considering risk, personnel, capacity restrictions, and follow-up to see that all requested change requirements are successfully completed, using tools which have proven satisfactory for the purpose.

Key Responsibilities for Build & Release Engineer 3:
- Apply Cherwell Service Management knowledge and skill to develop Cherwell queries, widgets, dashboards, calendars, and paginated reports. Automate repeating tasks using Cherwell one-steps.
- Provide consultation to other Cherwell users on data discovery, interpretation, analysis, extraction, and presentation within the Cherwell Service Management tool. Field questions from Cherwell users as they encounter difficulties with Cherwell features related to change and release management.
- Monitor the creation of new Cherwell change requests and work items to align them with deployment reservations, change documentation, work items and service requests and alert the release team of any problems with resource scheduling, change request status, or any other obstacles found in the change request documentation.
- Respond to Cherwell service requests by applying IT Service Management (ITSM) knowledge to classify the requests under the relevant service to route the request to the proper team or to fulfill the request directly.
- Respond to requests for analysis of Cherwell data to answer ad hoc questions about release metrics as they emerge.
- Augment Cherwell records to prepare them for data analysis by adding relevant metadata.
- Create appropriate requests for changes to role-based permissions in Active Directory.
- Create, edit, recommend, and document build and release pipelines using the Azure DevOps code Repository.
- Attend development team meetings to maintain awareness of planned application changes, provide feedback on the use of Azure DevOps build and release pipelines and their conformance to release plans, and aid with the use of Cherwell Service Management records and features.
- Maintain a release management SharePoint page to communicate release management topics, events, and services.
- Use GitHub to merge application code to be deployed by automation processes. Coordinate the scheduling and communication of code merge events.
- Provide communication to Visual Studio users to keep them informed of patch events that may impact their development workstations.
- Facilitate the design and implementation of Azure DevOps build and release pipelines.
- Monitor the use of Azure DevOps release pipelines to ensure adherence to release plans.
- Coordinate the build and deployment of application components such as web applications, web services, Windows services, console applications, client GUI applications, environment-specific configurations, etc.
- Perform software installations using the installation or implementation documented in Cherwell change requests by the application development team.
- Assist in the development of continuous integration and continuous delivery processes within an Azure DevOps infrastructure.
- Apply application architecture and infrastructure literacy and application deployment experience to resolve day-to-day application deployment obstacles through effective coordination of the appropriate resources and teams.
Requirements/Qualification for Build & Release Engineer 3:
- Bachelor s degree in computer technology or a closely related technical field is preferred.
- 10 years of demonstrated build and release experience is required with an applicable degree.
- 14 years of demonstrated build and release experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
- Experience should include designing and developing builds, scripts, installation procedures and systems, including source code control and issue tracing is required.
- Enterprise ticketing system: develop queries, repeating tasks, widgets, dashboards, calendars, and paginated reports.
- Technical communication: Interpret change request documentation and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Data Analysis: Experience with data discovery, interpretation, analysis, extraction, and presentation within the Cherwell Service Management tool
- Use of DFS file shares to manage the organization and access control of repositories of application change artifacts.
- Literacy and experience in the deployment of .NET applications, web applications, web services, and their environment-specific configurations.
- PowerShell Scripting: Use PowerShell to deploy application components and automate repetitive tasks.
- SQL Server fundamentals: Literacy with Databases, tables, procedures, views, foreign keys and other database concepts.
