The Specialty Pharmacy AI team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Data Scientist to play a role in designing and executing AI solutions, with a particular focus on Generative AI. The individual will serve as the technical lead for a portfolio of 3 to 5 AI projects and will work in collaboration with a small team of talented data scientists to execute these projects. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the full project lifecycle from a data science perspective, including problem identification and value estimation, building proofs of concept, scaling to production, and post-launch monitoring.

The ideal candidate will have experience and passion for improving healthcare outcomes with analytics as well as a demonstrated interest in learning and implementing cutting-edge AI technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant analytics experience

  • Significant experience using Python and SQL in data science roles

  • Familiarity with GenAI trends and technologies including major LLM provider APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, etc.) as well as archetypal GenAI solutions (RAG, co-pilots, document summarization, etc.)

  • Passion for exploring capabilities of new AI tools and incorporating them into team's workflow

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrates strong ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners, including experience with problem identification and business value sizing

  • Experience in AI model refinement and orchestration, including prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, embedding optimization / semantic search, and agent orchestration

  • Experience in model evaluation (incorporating both human and automated feedback), including model safety evaluation and guardrail design

  • Demonstrates proficiency in most areas of mathematical analysis methods, including predictive analytics, natural language processing, reinforcement learning and causal inference with in-depth specialization in some areas

  • Experience working with healthcare data, including claims data, provider data, and / or clinical data

  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists and maintaining high technical quality standards for team

  • Experience with Vertex AI and Google Cloud Platform is a plus, but comparable experience on other platforms is also valuable

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Physics, Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Master's degree or PhD preferred

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$142,140.00 - $284,280.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
