Position: GIS Technician

Location: Remote

Contract Duration: 6+ months

Position Summary:

Seeking a detail-oriented and skilled GIS Technician to support the agency s modernization initiatives. This position is part of a small GIS team responsible for enhancing the quality and accuracy of geospatial data, with a specific focus on geocoded address points and resolving boundary conflicts in statewide GIS layers. The GIS Technician will play a critical role in improving voter placement data through geospatial quality assurance processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Use ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online to edit, maintain, and analyze geospatial datasets.
  • Conduct data quality assessments and implement corrective actions to improve geocoded address data.
  • Identify and resolve topology conflicts, overlaps, and gaps in county, municipal, and other administrative boundary layers.
  • Utilize automated tools (e.g., ArcPy) and manual methods to validate and correct spatial data errors.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including senior GIS analysts, to align data with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure data accuracy and consistent data standards.
  • Create high-quality geographic outputs, including maps, shapefiles, reports, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of data quality procedures, methodologies, and corrections performed.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts, data processes, and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience using ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • Proven experience with quality control of geocoded address points.
  • Experience resolving spatial topology issues (gaps, overlaps, misalignments).
  • Proficiency with ArcPy and other GIS automation tools for data validation and correction.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams to resolve data discrepancies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to document procedures and explain GIS concepts.
  • Ability to generate professional map outputs and spatial data products.
  • Familiarity with statewide or large-scale GIS datasets is a plus.
