Purpose


The Junior Technologist, Cybersecurity Engineer will play a key role in supporting the organization's security monitoring and incident response capabilities, with an initial primary focus on maintaining and optimizing the Security information and event management (SIEM) platform. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this role will assist in configuring dashboards, managing data inputs, and troubleshooting issues to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of Splunk as a core security tool.


This position offers hands-on experience in working with cross-functional teams-including project managers, analysts, and IT staff-to support enterprise security initiatives. The Junior Cybersecurity Engineer will also begin developing skills in identifying potential security risks and learning how to apply best practices to improve system defenses. Over time, the role may expand to include broader responsibilities in evaluating and integrating other security tools, while also representing the cybersecurity team in internal and external communications.

Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week. Start time is flexible (ex. 8-5, 7-4, 6-3)/Hybrid role


Functions


ESSENTIAL


  • Knowledge and basic understanding of programming languages, database management, cloud management, and statistical analysis.

  • Interact as requested with External Clients and Customers.

  • Awareness of cybersecurity protocols, cryptography, and industry standards.

  • Analyze vulnerability scanning outputs, assess findings, and develop remediation tasks in cooperation with the appropriate operational subject matter experts.

  • Develop, document, and implement complex changes to security solutions within Oceaneering IT Security frameworks.

  • Contribute to evaluation, selection, design, and configuration of IT Security infrastructure solutions in a global environment.

  • Contribute to IT Security Policy and Standards documentation.

  • Perform basic project management activities and generating solution design and operational support documentation.

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 10%.


REQUIRED


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in information technology or relative college coursework.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Windows operating systems, Linux Enterprise Redhat, Ubuntu or CentOS.

  • Understanding of core networking technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP

  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Understanding of common threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices (e.g., NIST, MITRE ATT&CK)

  • Networking: Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, VPNs, and firewalls

  • Operating Systems: Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments, including system logs and event monitoring

  • Scripting & Automation: Basic experience with Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation and log parsing

  • Advanced skills with MS Office tools

  • Basic skills with diagramming software such as Visio

  • Advanced Active Directory configurations

  • CISCO networking equipment: firewalls, routers, and switches

  • Network Packet analysis with Wireshark

  • Basic knowledge of data encryption principles, PKI and SSL certificates

  • Security Tools: Exposure to EDR platforms (e.g., CrowdStrike, SentinelOne) and vulnerability scanners

  • Ticketing & Collaboration: Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and working in cross-functional teams

  • Version Control: Familiarity with Git (basic usage)
