Job Opening: CMS Certification Project Specialist
Location: Remote (State of North Carolina)
Rate: $80/hr
Position Overview
The Certification Project Specialist (CPS) will play a key role in supporting leadership and project teams to plan, manage, and execute CMS certification activities for complex health and human services systems under NC DHHS. This role will work within the Advanced Planning Office (APO) Certification & Compliance Unit, ensuring projects meet CMS certification criteria, comply with state standards, and align with MITA 3.0 maturity levels.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute certification strategies for assigned projects.
Facilitate certification workstream meetings and manage project documentation.
Develop, track, and manage certification evidence to meet CMS requirements.
Collaborate with business leads, vendors, and IT teams to ensure timely delivery.
Oversee and support CMS certification demonstrations and follow-up actions.
Provide training and guidance on CMS certification processes and documentation.
Maintain awareness of evolving CMS certification policies and best practices.
Integrate certification schedules and deliverables into overall project plans.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years MMIS/CMS certification experience.
5+ years in state government/public sector (Medicaid, MMIS, HHS).
5+ years of project management experience in matrixed environments.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, scope, budgets, and timelines.
Experience implementing information systems in client-facing roles.
3+ years with CMS Medicaid Enterprise Certification Lifecycle.
Familiarity with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid SDLC methodologies.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Project, Jira, or MITA Pulse.
CMMI experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of healthcare systems, analytics, and reporting.
Knowledge of MITA 3.0 framework and CMS certification standards.
Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
