Position Summary
CVS Health is recruiting for a Principal Engineer. In this high-impact role, you will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of cutting-edge cloud, automation, and infrastructure platforms that underpin our healthcare and retail ecosystems. This role demands a systems thinker who thrives in large-scale enterprises, prioritizes application design and problem-solving over certifications. You need to have a proven track record of building platforms from scratch. You'll drive the evolution of GenAI platforms as a distinct infrastructure paradigm while ensuring seamless cloud migrations, automation at scale, and infrastructure orchestration across Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS and OnPrem environments. You will serve as a thought leader and mentor for engineering teams, ensuring our cloud strategy is robust, innovative, and aligned with evolving business objectives.

The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.

You will make an impact by:
1. Strategic Architecture & Design
- Drive the end-to-end architecture for highly scalable, multi/hybrid-cloud (Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS) infrastructure platforms, ensuring alignment with business goals in healthcare and retail.
- Partner with other Distinguished Engineers, Architects, and executive leadership to shape the long-term infrastructure roadmap, with specific milestones for AWS expansion and cross-cloud integrations.
- Champion best practices for high-availability, performance, security, and cost optimization across all clouds.
2. Platform Development & Automation
- Oversee the design and development of new cloud-native platforms from the ground up, setting the standard for automation and infrastructure-as code in large, complex enterprises.
- Implement robust CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment and seamless scaling of containerized services.
- Foster an engineering culture that values developer autonomy, rapid iteration, and continuous improvement.
3. Generative AI & Emerging Technologies
- Provide thought leadership on how Generative AI (GenAI) and machine learning platforms create unique demands on infrastructure, including data pipelines, GPU/accelerator integration, and large-scale model hosting.
- Understand how to move GenAI from a thought experiment to application.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies (e.g., serverless, edge computing, advanced scheduling/orchestration) and guide their integration into the broader technology stack.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership & Mentoring
- Serve as a key technical advisor for C-level executives and product leaders, translating complex architectural decisions into clear business implications.
- Mentor and coach senior engineers, architects, and operational teams, elevating the organization's overall technical proficiency.
- Cultivate a strong, collaborative culture across distributed teams, promoting open communication, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
5. Enterprise Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to healthcare industry regulations and data privacy standards, advocating secure-by-design principles at every stage of the software development lifecycle.
- Guide compliance with internal governance frameworks for identity and access management, data residency, and business continuity planning.
- Identify risks and propose mitigation strategies in alignment with corporate security and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in large-scale enterprise environments.
- 5+ years proven experience building platforms from scratch (not just maintaining legacy
- systems).
Deep expertise in:
- Multi-Hybrid-cloud architecture (Google Cloud Platform, Azure, AWS; Google Cloud Platform retail focus is a
- plus).
- Container orchestration and cloud-native design patterns.
- Base Image management
- CI/CD frameworks
- Application design for distributed systems (microservices, event-driven
- architectures).
- Problem-solving mindset: Ability to simplify complexity and deliver pragmatic
- solutions.
- Leadership: Track record of guiding technical teams and driving cross-functional alignment.
Preferred Qualifications

Education
