Job Title: Contingent Worker - Microsoft Purview Specialist

REMOTE

Summary

The client is looking for a Microsoft Purview Specialist to assist with the execution of our data governance strategy. This role will support our organization's data governance, data catalog, business glossary, data quality, and data lineage strategies.

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with Microsoft Purview, including Data Map, Unified Catalog, Information Protection, DSPM for AI, Workflows and Compliance solutions.

The candidate should have a combination of technical expertise and analytical skills, certifications, and experience in data governance, compliance, and Microsoft cloud technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, and deploy Microsoft Purview Unified Data Catalog for effective data governance, particularly focusing on POC and moving from existing DG Tool to Purview.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to connect Purview to target systems, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  • Customize metadata models and user interfaces within Purview to meet organizational data governance needs and enhance user experience.
  • Assist the organizational adoption of the data governance platform by providing user documentation, training, and demonstrations to ensure proper usage and adherence to processes and procedures.
  • Use Microsoft Purview to classify, label, and protect sensitive data across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Generate reports and dashboards to provide insights into data usage, risk, and compliance posture.
  • Implement and manage data cataloging, data classification, and data lineage capabilities across structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Configure data sources and run scanning rules for on-premises and cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, M365).
  • Understand the integration with Azure, Microsoft 365, and Power BI.
  • Have implemented Data Lifecycle Management.
  • Design and apply sensitivity labels and auto-labeling policies across Microsoft 365 workloads.
  • Implement data encryption policies and protection mechanisms based on classification.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align labeling and protection schemes with business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide cross-training to client and team members on Purview functionalities, ensuring knowledge transfer and effective use of the platform.

Microsoft Cloud and Security Knowledge

  • Microsoft Purview: Familiarity with Data Map, Data Catalog, and scanning configuration.
  • Azure Integration: Understanding of Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Lake.
  • Azure services: (especially Azure Storage and Microsoft Entra)
  • Microsoft 365 compliance center
  • Security and Compliance Tools: Experience with Microsoft Information Protection (MIP), Azure Information Protection (AIP), and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Data loss prevention (DLP) and eDiscovery
  • Identity and access management
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in tools like Power BI for visualizing data governance metrics.

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
  • Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 7-10 years of technical experience with Microsoft products, including 1-2 years of Purview Data Governance
  • A minimum of 5 years' technical experience may be acceptable for candidates with exceptional expertise.
  • Strong familiarity with Azure, including resource setup and tenant establishment, as well as experience in scanning structured and unstructured data.
  • Proven experience in data governance, particularly in financial services such as wealth management, investment banking, or brokerage.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and facilitate training sessions.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft CoPilot and a solid understanding of the Microsoft tech stack, including administrative capabilities to support the deployment of Purview.

Additional Qualifications

  • Understanding and familiarity with healthcare insurance data is preferred.
  • Understanding of data privacy and protection regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or other relevant laws and regulations is preferred.
  • Understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and metadata management is a plus.
  • Experience and hands on knowledge of master and reference data management is a plus.
  • Industry certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) are a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of industry-related professional experience and education.
