What's the role?
This Sr. Dev Ops Engineering role on the Actuarial Software Engineering team will focus on the partnership between engineering and risk management partners. To excel in the role, you will combine knowledge of implementation patterns across application and data platforms (Mainframe, Windows, Linux, Docker, AWS) with risk engineering practices to ensure the teams have effectively identified, mitigated, and documented risks in their software solutions. You will have primary responsibility for moving applications through risk assessments, working with application teams to gather evidence of controls and patterns.
The Actuarial Software Engineering team at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for creating and improving systems that ensure the company can meet its financial obligations to its customers, employees, and field representatives. These systems are financial in nature, centered on insurance risk products and benefit plans, and based on the professional knowledge of the actuary. The applications are varied, generally are mathematical, and involve working in close partnerships with technical peers and actuarial business experts.

Geographic Specific Pay Structure:
205 - Structure 110: 102,060.00 USD - 189,540.00 USD
205 - Structure 115: 106,680.00 USD - 198,120.00 USD

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Enable developer productivity in support of business objectives
- Assisting development teams to apply automation patterns.
- Creating patterns of automation for CI/CD, infrastructure deployment, maintenance, monitoring, security and compliance using industry and enterprise best practices.
- Partnering with other enterprise teams on emerging best practices, patterns and technology.
- Continuously improve patterns and workflow by collecting and responding to feedback and key metrics.
- Proactively learn emerging platforms and related technology
- Ability to solve complex technical issues and enable/teach peers to be self sufficient
- Ability to provide thought leadership throughout the local work division
Bring your best! what this role needs:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 4-5 years
- 4 years of professional IT experience 4 years experience with at least one OS/hosting platform (i.e. Linux, Windows, AWS, Kube)
- 2 year's experience with integration of n-tier applications (i.e. DNS, HTTP, SSL, Encryption, Authentication)
- 2 years experience with CI/CD concepts and tools (i.e. GitLab, testing concepts, change management, blue/green, infrastructure as code)
- 2 years experience with infrastructure automation tools or coding/scripting (i.e. ansible, terraform, python, JavaScript, PowerShell)
- Creative problem solving skills
- Proactively learn emerging platforms and related technology
- Ability to solve complex technical issues and enable/teach peers to be self sufficient
- Ability to provide thought leadership throughout the local work division
- Experience with Agile methodologies/DevOps environment
