Description: Our client is currently seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Fixture Design Engineer
This position is onsite in Newton, MA - MUST be able to do this commute
12 month contract with potential extensions.
About the Job

As a Senior Manufacturing Fixture Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development of our next-generation robotic surgical platform. You'll work at the intersection of R&D and Manufacturing Engineering, helping transition complex electro-mechanical assemblies from prototype to production. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in fixture design for medical devices and a passion for innovation in healthcare technology.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design readiness for robotic surgical systems.
  • Design and develop production-grade build and test fixtures for complex electromechanical subsystems.
  • Author fixture documentation including requirements, design descriptions, usage guides, and maintenance procedures.
  • Lead fixture qualification and verification activities in partnership with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Support the development and optimization of assembly and test processes for capital equipment and disposable components.
  • Design fixtures and tests for component-level inspection and validation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across technical and process domains.
  • Create and manage engineering change orders (ECOs) for fixture and tooling documentation.
  • Communicate project status and technical updates effectively across teams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in electromechanical and consumable R&D engineering, including 5+ years in medical device development.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Strong understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and DFT (Design for Test).
  • Demonstrated experience in fixture design, qualification, and verification for medical device assembly and testing.
  • Experience with design transfer and new product introduction (NPI).
  • Skilled in fixture and process validation methodologies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in electromechanical system development.
  • Experience with Simulink-based fixture development; proficiency in Simulink and LabVIEW.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools such as Minitab.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
