Optical Lab Technician IV
Redmond WA
12 months (Possibility for extension)
Summary:
Lab technician with a technical degree and strong background in Robotics and/or Optical Imaging with interest in learning both.
Main responsibilities:
Supporting day-to-day research across the RL-R sensors team.
Owning lab spaces and associated lab instruments, including robot arms, calibration stations, and benchtop optical setups. Performing lab experiments under the guidance of researchers.
Qualifications:
BS in technical field (Engineering, Robotics, CS, Physics, Math, etc). MS or PhD preferred.
3+ years experience in either robotics or imaging systems.
3+ years programming experience in Python / C++ / Rust. Familiar with fundamental optics.
Ready for in person work in the Redmond, WA area.
Surrounding team & key projects :
Working with optics and robots (there are prototypes this person will be working on)
Sensors and research team with RL-R, anything that touches cameras within products.
Key research directions will be custom image sensors, custom compute sensors (no AI focus on this but slightly), sensing systems within robotics like humanoid (exploring sensing solutions for this platform), photonics which is more research on high spectrum imaging or polarization imagining and ---- optics and -------- surfaces.
How will performance be measured?
Measurable deliverables, someone who can adapt to research environment. Timelines are always changing so we need someone who can understand bigger picture and be able to pivot/shift. Need can-do attitude.

Must-Have Skills:
Hands on optics experience and programming skills (python)
Needs automation experience
Nice-to-have Skills:
RUST is a newer language but a plus if they have this
C++ experience

4+ years of experience but need to look at level 4 possibly
Degrees/certifications required?
Bachelor s degree in mechanical, physics , no certs tied to role
