Core Java Developer with Commodities Trading Systems

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Core Java Developer with Commodities Trading experience for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Financial Services clients in midtown NYC. He or she will need to work in the office 3 days/week.

We are seeking an experienced Core Java Developer to join a Commodities Trading Technology team. The ideal candidate will have strong Java expertise and a strong understanding of one or more commodities markets, particularly in physical and financial energy products such as crude oil, natural gas, power, or metals. You will work closely with traders, quants, and risk managers to build, enhance, and support trading and risk management applications.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop high-performance, scalable Java applications to support front-office trading, pricing, and risk analytics.
• Integrate with market data feeds, order management systems (OMS), and risk platforms.
• Optimize latency, throughput, and reliability of real-time trading systems.
• Collaborate with traders, business analysts, and quants to understand business needs and implement effective solutions.
• Support production systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Maintain documentation, unit tests, and adherence to software development best practices.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) processes.

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of Core Java development experience (Java 8 or higher).
• Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, data structures, and low-latency programming.
• Experience in any commodities trading area (e.g., energy, metals, agriculture, etc.)
• Familiarity with trading workflows, market data, and trade lifecycle (e.g., trade capture, position management, PnL, risk).
• Hands-on experience with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, Solace, RabbitMQ).
• Proficiency with SQL and relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with Spring / Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with pricing models and real-time data processing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Metals Trading experience
• Experience with ETRM/CTRM systems (e.g., Endur, Allegro, RightAngle, Openlink).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work in fast-paced, front-office environments.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Bitbucket.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
