Description
SAIC's National Security and Space Sector is seeking an Advanced Materials Systems Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services to our NRO customer within the Intelligence Community (IC) in Chantilly, VA. The NRO is responsible for designing, building, and operating national security-related systems based in space, in the air, and on the ground.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate new or emerging material sciences, technologies or applications for mission relevance and space-worthiness
Apply technical expertise in the area of materials for space applications
o Assist government Program Managers (PMs) and Contracting Officer's Technical Representatives (COTRs) with creation of technology development plans and technology roadmaps for advanced materials projects
o Define requirements and technical objectives for R&D projects and ensure performers continue progress towards achieving the objectives
Assist and support government PMs and COTRs with all phases of the R&D acquisition lifecycle
o Conduct market research to identify sources for advanced materials R&D acquisition
o Develop and review acquisition artifacts such as Statements of Work, Justification and Approvals, Broad Agency Announcements and Engineering Change Proposals
o Participate in project reviews and provide technical and programmatic feedback to ensure projects progress towards achieving objectives
o Create and review project briefing materials for government reviews as needed
Engage in outreach activities with stakeholders within the organization to identify transition partners for R&D projects
Engage in outreach activities with industry, academia, and other government organizations to identify promising new ideas or concepts for future R&D investments
Qualifications
Current TS/SCI clearance with Poly
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or related discipline (Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering)
14+ years of relevant engineering and/or project management experience
Subject matter expertise in advanced materials, preferably materials used in the space domain
Experience supporting R&D acquisition lifecycle, process, and documentation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to successfully operate as a member of a diverse team
Ability to support occasional domestic travel
