Legal Data Governance Analyst
Role Summary
We're looking for a meticulous and process-driven Legal Data Governance Analyst to support a strategic initiative focused on modernizing legal data retention practices within Office 365. This role centers on transitioning from legacy litigation holds to a more structured, case-based e-Discovery framework. The ideal candidate will bring experience in legal data workflows, strong administrative discipline, and a commitment to confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the migration of outdated litigation holds to case-specific e-Discovery holds using Office 365 tools.
- Partner with legal and account administration teams to audit, validate, and reassign user-level data holds.
- Investigate legacy holds with unclear retention rationale and document findings for resolution.
- Set up and manage e-Discovery cases, ensuring accurate assignment of custodians and timely closure workflows.
- Ensure secure handling of sensitive and confidential data throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor progress, maintain detailed records, and communicate status updates to stakeholders.
- Assist with manual reviews and support automation efforts; scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell) is a plus.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with e-Discovery platforms and legal hold management, ideally within Office 365.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Understanding of data retention policies and legal preservation requirements.
- Comfortable managing high-volume data reviews across large user populations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across legal and technical teams.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting in Microsoft environments.
- Background in compliance, legal operations, or enterprise data governance.
- Experience with case-based hold tracking and automated disposition workflows.
