Job Title: Lab Assistant
Location: Hershey, Pennsylvania
Type: Contract
Compensation: $20 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Onsite
Hours: This position typically starts at 7:30-8:00am and runs 7.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch. Actual hours may vary depending on organizational needs.
Summary:
The Lab & Pilot Plant Technician provides hands-on support for innovation projects and technical initiatives in both laboratory and pilot plant environments. Responsibilities include batching and measuring ingredients, packaging and labeling samples, assisting with pilot plant scale-ups, and maintaining clean, organized, and safe workspaces. This role requires strong listening skills, the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety protocols.
Job Responsibilities:
-Support standard experimental work in the laboratory and pilot plant to prepare and package products.
-Assist with pilot plant scale-up testing, including ingredient preparation, equipment setup, operation, and cleanup.
-Provide support for producing samples for sale and large production runs.
-Maintain laboratory and pilot plant workspaces through organization, sanitation, and equipment cleaning.
-Manage ingredient and supply inventory.
-Enter ingredient and packaging information into regulatory tracking databases.
Skills:
-Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
-Knowledge of laboratory and/or pilot plant equipment.
-Attention to detail, organizational ability, and commitment to safety and GMP standards.
-Basic computer skills, including keyboarding, web browsers, and email.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; post-high school training or technical certification preferred.
Experience in a laboratory, consumer goods production, or commercial kitchen preferred.
Must own a smartphone.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for up to 7 hours.
