In this position...

The Ford Electrified Systems Engineering team is looking for a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Electrical/Electronics Engineer to help design and maintain current and future HIL battery simulators which serve as the testbeds for Battery Management System (BMS) software validation. You will work in a team environment to deliver HIL battery simulator testbeds on time with efficiency and quality.

As a HIL Electrical Engineer, you will develop expertise in electric and hybrid vehicle high voltage traction battery fundamentals, gain knowledge in vehicle electrical and communication architectures, and become familiar with Ford's Global Product Development System.

This position collaborates closely with HIL software engineers, electrical technologists, suppliers, BMS software developers, and test engineers to develop a strong understanding of the vehicle functions and implement appropriate design strategies for new features and updates.

What you'll do...

Responsible for leading the design and development of battery HIL simulator hardware functions and requirements.

Work with BMS Control/Software Engineers, Vehicle System Engineers, and battery HIL software engineers in the development of the hardware requirements for the battery HIL simulators based on BMS needs.

Lead the development of battery HIL hardware schematics and layouts both internally and with suppliers.

Conduct failure mode analysis of the various hardware components and failure mode management strategies.

Coordinate with electronic/EMC specialists and complete development and validation of the electronic circuit development.

Coordinate and conduct design verification testing at the electronics and battery HIL testbed level.

Isolation detection topologies, strategies, and processing.

Battery control hardware design architectures.

Data sampling/filter design for current sensor, Battery Pack Sensing Module (BPSM) data (cell/PACKV), coil currents.

Implementation and testing of low noise instrumentation circuits.

Opamp, logic gate, and MOSFET driver circuit analysis.

Data isolator circuit implementation.

Sensor interface to micro (including hall effect devices).

Implementation of 32 bit micro into automotive module - low level details & analysis.

Controller networking architectures and hardware.

You'll have...

B.S. or higher in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with specialty in circuit design and control theory.

2+ years of hands-on experience with electronic module design and testing.

2+ years of good working knowledge of Microprocessor based controller design and testing.

2+ years of good working knowledge of communication circuits and protocols (e.g. CAN, Serial, etc.).

Even better, you may have...

M.S. or higher in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with specialty in circuit design and control theory.

5+ years of hands-on experience with electronic module design and testing.

1+ years of experience in Li-Ion battery controls.

1+ years of electronic manufacturing experience.

1+ years of experience in Spice or similar for circuit design simulations.

1+ years of experience with Altium
