Job Title: Fire Protection Design Manager

Location: Fully Remote (Must reside near one of the following locations: Arlington, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Santa Monica, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL)

Duration: 12-Month W2 Contract

Pay Rate: $72-$80 per hour (depending on experience)

Employment Type: Contract (W2)

Russell Tobin & Associates is currently seeking a Fire Protection Design Manager to support the building program operations of a global technology and e-commerce leader. This fully remote position plays a vital role in managing Fire and Life Safety (FLS) systems design and implementation across multiple large-scale industrial and manufacturing construction projects. The ideal candidate will have significant project management experience, technical fire protection expertise, and the ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary teams through the design and construction lifecycle.

Please note: While this is a remote opportunity, candidates must be located near one of the listed sites to be eligible for potential full-time conversion (which would be onsite).

Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Manage and oversee multiple projects, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and quality compliance
  • Develop and implement program-wide strategies, processes, and best practices
  • Align FLS program efforts with broader organizational objectives and stakeholder goals

Project Planning and Execution

  • Create detailed project plans, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations
  • Coordinate with internal teams, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless execution
  • Monitor project status and adjust resources as needed to meet key milestones

Technical Leadership

  • Provide subject matter expertise on FLS systems, codes, and design standards
  • Review and approve design documents and specifications
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor FLS engineers, designers, and project managers
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish team goals
  • Promote a collaborative and high-performing team culture

Quality Control

  • Implement quality control procedures for FLS systems
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure design and construction quality
  • Resolve technical design issues and discrepancies

Client and Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for FLS-related matters
  • Communicate project status and updates to clients and leadership
  • Address and resolve stakeholder concerns effectively

Financial and Risk Management

  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Monitor costs and implement value engineering and cost-saving strategies
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current on industry trends, codes, and fire protection technologies
  • Share insights and best practices to improve efficiency and project outcomes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s and/or Master s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or a related field)
  • Active Professional Engineering (PE) License
  • 10+ years of project management experience in commercial or industrial construction environments
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, ASHRAE standards, and fire protection industry regulations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools (e.g., Revit MEP, Navisworks, Autodesk BIM 360)
  • Proven experience with clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, and project management software

Top 3 Must-Have Skills:

  1. Fire Protection Engineering Degree with PE License
  2. 10+ years of relevant project management experience
  3. Proficiency in BIM coordination and clash detection
