This role is a dedicated Performance Test Engineer position created to standardize performance testing practices. The engineer will initially support one application team, building performance test frameworks and practices, and will then rotate across multiple teams to establish consistent, repeatable performance testing standards across the organization.
This is an individual contributor role requiring deep hands-on expertise. The engineer will work closely with development teams and existing QA resources, acting as a performance testing subject-matter expert and helping teams build, execute, and mature their performance testing capabilities. This role is not limited to a single team and is not a general QA or automation position.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute performance, load, stress, and scalability tests for enterprise-scale applications
- Build and implement performance test harnesses and reusable testing frameworks
- Partner with multiple development teams to standardize performance testing practices
- Analyze test results, identify bottlenecks, and provide actionable recommendations
- Guide developers and QA teams on performance testing best practices
- Work independently across teams and influence testing practices without direct authority
- Support performance testing efforts throughout the application lifecycle
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache JMeter (mandatory)
- 2–3+ years of direct JMeter experience
- 5+ years total performance testing experience (JMeter + LoadRunner acceptable, but JMeter is required)
- Experience doing performance testing high-volume, enterprise systems
- Ability to operate independently across multiple teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure-based applications and infrastructure
- Familiarity with performance testing in distributed or microservices architectures
- Exposure to DevOps environments and CI/CD pipelines (helpful but not required)
Tools & Technology
- Apache JMeter (required)
- LoadRunner (acceptable as complementary experience)
- Enterprise application environments
- Cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
