Job Title: Mainframe Systems Programmer
Location: NYC
Duration: 2 Years
Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Mainframe Systems Programmer with extensive hands-on experience in IBM DB2 on z/OS environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing mainframe DB2 subsystems, ensuring high performance, reliability, and availability.
Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain DB2 subsystems in a z/OS environment.
- Perform DB2 software installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve complex DB2 and related product issues.
- Tune DB2 for optimal performance and resource utilization.
- Provide technical leadership, documentation, and best practices for DB2 environments.
- Manage SMP/E processes for software installations and maintenance.
- Perform ongoing system maintenance including patching, upgrading, and administering mainframe z/OS, storage systems, and system software products.
- Work with enterprise-wide, large-scale implementations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high system availability.
- Provide production off-hour support and assist during weekend implementations.
- Utilize monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON for performance and health checks.
- Support and troubleshoot CICS, IMS, and AFP printing environments as needed.
- Maintain strong adherence to organizational and security standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, and IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.).
- Proven experience with mainframe CPU installations as a Systems Programmer Consultant.
- Hands-on experience with VTAM and TCP/IP.
- Strong experience in DB2 Database System Recovery and performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of DB2 administration and utilities.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
- Experience in enterprise-wide, large-scale environments.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or 10+ years of relevant technical experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of CICS, IMS, and AFP printing systems.
- Relevant IBM or Mainframe Certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Database Administrator DB2, IBM z/OS Specialist, etc.).
