Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Data Analyst / Developer to analyze and interpret data extracted from the AS400 (iSeries) environment. The role involves reviewing a flat file generated from an AS400 export to determine its structure, quality, and usability for supporting business operations, reporting, and downstream systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze flat files exported from AS400 to understand data structure, mapping, and relationships.

  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, and integrity against source AS400 tables.

  • Identify transformation logic and business rules applied during data extraction.

  • Document data flow, file layouts, and metadata for operational and reporting use.

  • Collaborate with business and operations teams to define requirements for data utilization.

  • Provide technical recommendations for integrating AS400 data into modern systems (SQL Server, data warehouse, or cloud-based platforms).

  • Write and optimize queries using RPGLE, CL, SQL/400, or Query/400 for data validation and extraction.

  • Troubleshoot data discrepancies and provide remediation steps.

  • Develop or enhance AS400 programs and scripts to improve data exports or processing.

Required Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with AS400 / IBM iSeries environment.

  • Strong experience with DB2/400, CL, RPG / RPGLE, SQL/400, and Query/400.

  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret large flat files (CSV, TXT, or fixed-width) generated from AS400.

  • Experience in data mapping, transformation, and validation.

  • Familiarity with data integration, ETL tools, or scripting for automation.

  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of data structures, normalization, and relational data concepts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience integrating AS400 data with modern databases or BI tools.

  • Background in operations, finance, or logistics data analysis.

  • Knowledge of Python, Power BI, or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for downstream analysis.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
