GPS IIF Cyber Systems Senior Engineer

The Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SI&WS) division, is seeking a GPS IMOSC Cyber Systems Senior Engineer (Level 4). This position will support the Global Positioning System (GPS) sustainment program located at Schriever Space Force Base, about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs. GPS is a satellite-based radio-navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. GPS is the world's largest military satellite constellation and is the world's only global utility. GPS provides position, navigation, and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users. Boeing has over 30 years of history in GPS, including achieving full system capability in 1995. The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation, launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to its US Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy of 2031 and beyond. The program is currently operating under a 10-year sustainment contract, from 2022 to 2031.

Position Overview:

The GPS IMOSC Cyber Systems Senior Engineer will be a key member of a high-performing team engaged in critical projects related to the GPS IIF satellite constellation. As a member of our team, you will lead system integration, hardware and software installation, and configuration and maintenance of servers and workstations to support the GPS architecture, while mentoring and providing guidance to junior team members. This role will provide problem resolution and technical support for our classified systems. This position will support the design, validation, maintenance, and configuration management of the computing domain. Our system offers enterprise capability within a secure closed network. This role will maintain and monitor system performance to support the GPS operational mission. As an administrator, you will play a crucial role in integrating logistics, technological advances, and engineering into an ecosystem that supports the GPS mission while meeting modern cybersecurity requirements.

Additionally, this role will continuously evaluate and improve the IMOSC system architecture while serving as a subject matter expert. This includes performing trade studies to evaluate and deploy improved system designs that meet modern industry solutions and cybersecurity infrastructure. This also includes leading technical refresh initiatives, while working with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of system enhancements.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, design, integrate, and maintain all system and computing components, including but not limited to: databases, networking equipment, and applications.
  • Perform System Administrator functions for Windows platforms within a medium-sized enterprise domain architecture.
  • Perform system integration and hardware/software installation, alongside cybersecurity implementations.
  • Perform LAN/networking monitoring and maintenance actions.
  • Perform and demonstrate knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux security hardening and automation.
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware/software and virtual machines in support of the full system lifecycle.
  • Plan, coordinate, test, and execute hardware/software releases in conjunction with cybersecurity requirements and configuration management.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery actions, such as backup and restoration of computing services, data, and operations.
  • Perform, manage, and administer service/software deployments, group policies, system patching/upgrades, and cybersecurity hardening.
  • Perform complex system problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
  • Integrate cybersecurity solutions into the information system architecture and their processes.
  • Monitor and maintain system performance to support GPS mission operations and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Perform system and cybersecurity administrator functions to identify, analyze, and address vulnerability management action items.
  • Perform/assist in administrative tasks related to the system such as technical writing, system documentation, and cybersecurity and configuration management audits.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
  • Active U.S. security clearance; Secret or above.
  • Current Security+ certification.
  • Windows Enterprise Systems Administration experience.
  • Experience performing complex system problem identification and resolution.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and restoration of complex computing service operations.
  • Experience performing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software installations and support.
  • Experience in analyzing DISA STIGs/RMF and resolving security vulnerabilities.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with system modernization efforts.
  • Networking/Cisco IOS experience.
  • Experience integrating cybersecurity solutions into information systems and associated processes.
  • Experience in LAN and database configuration, management, and maintenance.
  • Experience in cybersecurity scanning, monitoring, and analysis.
  • Experience with Splunk, ACAS, and other SEIM Security tools.
  • RHEL 8 (or higher) System Administration experience.
  • Experience with virtualization environments (VMWare, Hyper-V) and storage arrays.
  • Experience with configuration/maintenance of PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with networking TAPS/Gigamon devices.
  • Experience in presenting technical information, analyses, or proposals to senior leaders or customers.
  • Experience in end-to-end design/development and in integrating multiple systems.
