The Facilities Management Department at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity to join their Elevator team as an Elevator Network & Integration Associate . Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
Position Summary:
This position supports the development and execution of University-wide network engineering initiatives, with a specialized focus on elevator technology. The incumbent leads the technical integration of elevator controllers and monitoring systems into a centralized network to enhance performance tracking, maintenance planning, and capital forecasting. Supporting University's Elevator Remote Monitoring Program, this role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to define and execute scope, schedule, and budget parameters. The Elevator Network & Integration Associate is responsible for configuring, commissioning, and maintaining system hardware and software while applying expert knowledge of elevator systems and network communication protocols. Work is performed independently across both office and mechanical environments, requiring advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Duties Include:
- Apply network engineering expertise to integrate elevator controllers across the campus network.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and installation of communication modules and monitoring components in elevator systems.
- Configure central monitoring equipment, systems, and mobile applications to align with performance objectives, including the coordination of server and network infrastructure needs with FM and UVA IT groups
- Commission and test systems to ensure proper functionality, adjusting as needed for full operability.
- Diagnose and resolve system deficiencies, including software/firmware updates, I/O signals, network connectivity, and communication protocols.
- Recommend inventory prioritization and develop implementation plans aligned with equipment compatibility and organizational goals.
- Review preliminary and final design specifications; suggest improvements for technical quality and constructability.
- Prepare cost estimates and assess the budgetary impact of materials and labor related to system integration and remote monitoring.
- Organize and oversee the work of third-party contractors, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and quality standards.
- Conduct inspections of installed systems and ensure commissioning meets University requirements.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and analytical tools that translate system data into actionable insights for preventive maintenance and capital planning.
- Establish systematic preventative maintenance procedures to ensure long-term system reliability.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical field, or equivalent experience in network integration of physical infrastructure
- Minimum of 4 years' experience, including proven competency in electronics, electrical, mechanical systems or elevator specific trade experience
