Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center - Cole Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

We're looking for a driven and collaborative Manufacturing Engineer to join our ME Body Product Interface team, where you'll be instrumental in shaping manufacturable product designs that meet the demands of advanced vehicle manufacturing. In this highly integrated role, you will work cross-functionally with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering & Operations, Dimensional Quality, and Suppliers to embed Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) and Best Practices (BPs) into every design release, ensuring product compatibility /interbuildability.

You will lead the charge in managing engineering changes between product and manufacturing, lead Body-In-White (BIW) material procurement for launch, and resolve complex design/process issues through collaborative problem-solving. This role is key in enabling seamless launches and dimensional excellence. What You'll Do
  • Evaluate product designs and ensure Manufacturing Requirements, Common Datum Locating Strategies, and Best Practices are incorporated in the vehicle design releases.
  • Ensure product designs incorporate interbuildability and facilitate deployment of automation strategies.
  • Develop and manage a Plan for Every Part to track part levels and changes, ensuring tooling and part coordination.
  • Manage changes that impact the Body-In-White (BIW) via Study Requests, Concept Sheets and Engineering Change Requests
  • Support the Vehicle Dimensional Quality Manager (VDQM) and Dimensional Team to drive nominal body and in the development of the Critical Interface plan and execution.
  • Develop program specific subassembly and part sharing strategy
  • Establish Body Shop Material Required Date (MRD) chart to support sourcing process; complete eSORs and participate in Tech Reviews
  • Lead the resolution of complex cross-functional issues

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 5+ Years Experience in automotive product design (DRE) and/or manufacturing engineering
  • Knowledge of Body Shop tooling / assembly strategies
  • High level understanding of Stamping
  • Knowledge of sheetmetal part datum strategies and GD&T
  • High level understanding of sheetmetal joining strategies (welding, mechanical fastening, adhesive bonding)
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience

What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualification)
  • Experience with Body-In-White (BIW) tool design and build
  • Knowledge of body shop automation strategies
