Job Details

A Massachusetts-based government agency is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Boston, MA. This role is ideal for a hands-on cybersecurity professional looking to secure complex infrastructure and protect sensitive digital assets across multiple office locations.

In this position, you'll provide critical support for cybersecurity operations-ranging from real-time threat detection and response to long-term system hardening and risk reduction. The role also involves collaborating with IT leadership to align security solutions with enterprise-wide goals. Some after-hours availability will be needed to support emergency response and scheduled system maintenance.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of IT experience, with a minimum of 2 years dedicated to cybersecurity functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, engineering, or a related technical field-or equivalent certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CISM.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Threat detection tools and SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk)
    • Firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection
    • Conducting and analyzing vulnerability scans
    • Implementing security policies and access controls
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks like NIST 800-61 and CIS Controls.
  • Strong communication and documentation capabilities.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Background supporting cybersecurity in regulated or government environments.
  • Proficiency with networking hardware: switches, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, etc.
  • Understanding of secure provisioning and deprovisioning workflows.
  • Experience conducting audits and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
