About the Role
The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is seeking an experienced Senior Application Support Developer to assist in the modernization and ongoing support of the Mississippi Automated Child Welfare Information System (MACWIS).
This position focuses on maintaining legacy systems (Natural, VB6) while contributing to the development and migration toward a modern CCWIS-compliant platform. The role involves hands-on development, troubleshooting, data analysis, and participation in modernization planning sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance legacy Natural, VB6, and .NET applications.
- Develop and execute data cleanup scripts (SQL/Natural) for data de-duplication, integrity, and migration.
- Support Data Migration and Testing (DMT) validation efforts.
- Participate in technical planning, project meetings, and inter-agency collaborations.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for legacy MACWIS and the evolving CCWIS ecosystem.
- Prepare technical documentation and provide production support for ongoing operations.
- Lead or mentor junior developers on assigned tasks.
Required Technical Skills
- 10+ years of experience with Natural Programming Language.
- 10+ years of Visual Basic 6 (VB6) programming experience.
- 10+ years of SQL programming experience.
- Proficiency in .NET Framework (C#, ASP.NET).
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting legacy production systems.
- Strong background in data integration, batch processing, and file-based interfaces.
- Experience in code refactoring, modularization, and system transition to modern platforms.
- Familiarity with data mapping, conversion, and migration planning.
- Knowledge of source control tools and change management (Git, SVN, TFS).
Child Welfare System Experience
- Prior experience with Child Welfare Information Systems (SACWIS, MACWIS, or CCWIS).
- Understanding of child welfare business processes such as case management, service planning, licensing, and reporting.
- Ability to translate program requirements into technical specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with child welfare system modernization or federal CCWIS compliance.
- Familiarity with ADABAS.
- Knowledge of federal child welfare management system requirements.
Work Location
Remote must be available during Central Time business hours
(Occasional travel to Jackson, MS may be required)
