Roles and Responsibilities | 1. Data Collection and Integration: Collect data from various and often disparate sources, combining them into a holistic model for comprehensive analysis. Ensure data quality and accuracy through data validation and cleaning processes. 2. Data Analysis and Visualization: Analyze and visualize the collected data using tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI to identify trends and patterns. Create reports and dashboards to track key metrics and leading indicators, such as: * Transmission project pipeline, historical trending, and progress tracking * Initial CapEx and material/resource projections and monitoring * Identifying and prioritizing risk and risk mitigation activities 3. Geospatial Analysis: Collaborate with the GIS team (OTIS) to create maps that show the location of customer requests, aging infrastructure, and other potential grid or substation projects in a particular area along with existing system infrastructure (or lack thereof). Analyze the spatial relationships between these datasets to identify trends and patterns. 4. Insight Generation: Provide actionable insights to support the development of strategic plans and budgets for transmission project needs. This includes: * Identifying areas of high demand for additional transmission projects * Providing data-driven recommendations on transmission project prioritization and resource allocation 5. Development of New Tools and Applications: Assist with the development and implementation of new tools that support the analytics above. Conduct needs assessments and requirements gathering for new tool development to ensure that they meet stakeholder needs. * Coordinate with business unit application developers to design and implement new features and functionality to support the long-range project development and forecasting. * Provide input on data model design and implementation, and ensure integration of new tools into existing processes | |

Additional Skills | Short Term Success: - Coordinate with stakeholders to identify what sources of data exist or need to exist, develop a plan to consolidate the data and build out initial tools and/or dashboards to support more in-depth analysis. Complete the consolidation and analysis within 3 months. - Provide recommendations and initial framework for forecasting & projection models (~3-10 years in the future) based on data collected through stakeholder input. Complete recommendations and framework outline within 6 months. - Support brainstorming efforts for newly developed teams by bringing forward ideas on data collection, analysis, and visualization opportunities. Complete a list of recommended tools and resources by the end of month 3. Long Term Success: - Build out long-range forecasting & projection models within business unit applications. Gather requirements, provide recommendations, and coordinate with business unit application developers. Complete development and testing of long-range forecasting models within 18 months. - Develop strategic guidance and ideation on future opportunities for enhanced data analytics and automation of core processes. Complete analysis of current capabilities and propose new initiatives by end of 12 months. - Documenting the model in a way it can be used for knowledge transfer for team members, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources to succeed. | |
Notes | Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, business intelligence, statistics, computer science) or related field. Experience: 5+ years of experience in data analysis, visualization, and tools, with a focus on transmission or energy industry applications. Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI). Familiarity with machine learning or predictive analytics techniques and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R). Key Skills: Self-motivated, ability to work independently and navigate through ambiguity. Ability to think creatively and apply data concepts to inform high-level visions and requests. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and build strong relationships. High level of self-motivation, prioritization, and time management skills. Ability to assess training needs and develop training plans. |
