Position: Linux Automation Engineer

Location: DC3, Linthicum Heights, MD (On-site)

Duration: Long-term contract

MUST HAVES:
    • Education/Experience:5 years with a Bachelor's degree OR
    • 3 years with a Master's degree OR
    • 0 years with PhD
    • In lieu of a degree: Additional 4 years of relevant experience + one active certification (Cloud+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+, SSCP, CASP+, CCNP Security, CCSP, FITSP-O, or GFACT)
  • Clearance: Minimum active Secret clearance
  • Certification: Active IAT Level II certification (must upload copy)
    • Technical Skills:Expertise managing Red Hat (RHEL) systems with Ansible Playbooks
    • Experience with Git and CI tools (e.g., GitLab CI)
    • Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure - primarily Azure)
    • Knowledge of Kubernetes systems and deployments
    • Proficiency in containerization technologies
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, networking concepts, and cyber threats


Job Description:

Role Summary

The Linux Automation Engineer will maintain and optimize on-premises and cloud Kubernetes environments to support application hosting. This role focuses on deploying applications in an automated, containerized fashion, improving scalability, reliability, and performance while reducing costs. Responsibilities include integrating Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines, administering and configuring environments, and ensuring seamless maintenance and integration across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build components encompassing network, security, identity, governance, development, and operations in Azure cloud environments
  • Operationalize solutions from proof-of-concept through production using automation for repeatability and maintainability
  • Maintain and integrate multiple on-premises and cloud-hosted Kubernetes environments
  • Deploy applications in automated containerized fashion; ensure scalability and reliability
  • Integrate Kubernetes deployments with CI/CD pipelines for faster time-to-market
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enforce standards and best practices

Required Qualifications
  • Education/Experience:
    • 5 years with a Bachelor's degree; 3 years with a Master's degree; 0 years with PhD
    • Degree in Information Systems, IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or Cybersecurity
    • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree: Additional 4 years of relevant experience and one active certification (Cloud+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+, SSCP, CASP+, CCNP Security, CCSP, FITSP-O, or GFACT)
  • Clearance: Minimum active Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience automating Ansible playbooks via AWX, Ansible Tower, Run Deck, or GitLab
  • Experience deploying observability platforms (Grafana, SolarWinds) and SIEMs (Splunk)
  • Basic programming ability (Java, Python, C#)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

Schedule
  • Core hours: 0930-1430 Monday-Friday for team overlap
  • On-site coverage: 0600-1800 Monday-Friday; schedules coordinated with team for coverage

Success Metrics (First 12 Months)
  • Maintain uptime and reliability of Kubernetes environments
  • Achieve automation of deployments across all environments
  • Reduce manual intervention in system administration tasks by 30%
  • Ensure compliance with security and governance standards

Working Conditions

  • May require occasional extended hours for deployments and maintenance windows
